Farmers prepare new planting season

CANDABA - Amidst financial losses brought about by recent calamity, several farmers here have been busy preparing their farm lands for next planting season.

According to them, they were left no choice but to continue with their planting activity despite limited available resources.

Gonzales stressed that they are still hoping to receive benefits from the Department of Agriculture as promised to flood affected farmers in the form of seeds subsidy and other farm implements.

Earlier, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala led the 'Farmers Forum' in San Luis town wherein he stated that the department is set to deliver basic support and assistance to the affected farmers.

It can also be noted that farmers here and in towns of San Luis and San Simon have already received their claims amounting to more than P4.9-M from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.  (PCIC)

Qualified farmers from Candaba received P1,750,000 while those from San Luis and San Simon got P1,584 and P1,664 respectively.

However,Mario Concepcion, town's municipal agriculturist, disclosed that another problem with crop insurance is that only farmers who planted hybrid seeds were qualfied to get insurance.
