CANDABA – Despite fair weather condition, the portion of Arnedo Dike in Barangay Mandasig this town collapsed anew the other day.
According to the residents, the nearby road is no longer passable as its basement was totally taken by the flow of water in Pampanga River.
This road is located at the back of the house of Rene Maglanque who is reportedly eyeing the mayoralty position next election.
Manalastas narrated that before the onslaught of the previous typhoons; Northern Builders was seen working on the scoured portion of the dike.
Initially, the contractor gained the admiration of the residents for the engineering intervention it has implemented.
In fact, she claimed, the newly concreted portion of the dike sustained strong current of water brought about by Typhoon ‘Pedring.”
However, Manalastas said they were surprised that Northern Builders silently pulled out its heavy equipments and did not finish the concreting of the remaining stretch of the affected dike.
“As this developed, hundreds of families were isolated with the Arayat-Apalit setback levee serving as an alternate route going to public market and town plaza.
The Arnedo Dike is now more than 70 years old which according to officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways has already out live its lifespan.
