CANDABA – A group of bird hunters here reminded local officials that to much number birds in Candaba Wetlands causes ecological imbalance which gives problem to some sectors including farmers.
The group disclosed that some farmers working near the Wildlife Reserve Park in Sitio Dona Simang, Visal San Pablo are complaining about the birds eating their palay and other valuable crops.
The group also suggested to the municipal government to make a study involving the effects on farming of continuing growing number of the local and migratory birds staying in the several bird sanctuaries here.
As this developed, they stressed that it is about time to revisit the resolutions passed by the Sangguniang Bayan declaring Candaba as a Fresh Water Aquaculture Resource and Fish Sanctuary Zone for the purpose of protecting and preserving its flora and fauna followed by another resolution declaring Candaba Swamp as bird sanctuary.
The declaration aims to further bolster the municipality’s program of harnessing and developing its eco- tourism potential.
Under the recent resolution, hunting of birds is prohibited.
