PML urges Aquino to stop DPWH projects in two districts of Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The members of Pampanga Mayor's League recently approved a resolution urging President Benigno Aquino III to suspend all Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects intended for the third and fourth district of the province.

Resolution no. 14, Series of 2011 was unamously signed by all the mayors in an emergency meeting.

Mayor Jerry Pelayo, PML president, stressed that the initiative covers projects which are not  in accord with the duly approved priority and development programs of the province, especially on risk and disaster management prevention.

Pelayo said current DPWH projects intented for the province are not even attuned to the approved priority and development programs of the province.

The recent flooding virtually turning the entire fourth district into sea proved Pampanga to be in a highly critical situation.

Massive inundation even claimed the lives of some Kapampangan, destroyed billions worth of agricultural crops and damaged thousands of residential houses including properties therein.

Pelayo stated the structural defects of Arayat-Candaba-San Luis-San Simon-Apalit-Macabebe-Masantol setback levee - serving as second line of defense against flooding for the rest of the province aggravated the already critical situation and prolong the inundation.

He further claimed that if the situation is not properly address it might adversely affects the economy, education, lives and livelihood of all sectors, especially the poor.

Meanwhile, the PML is likewise pushing for the reactivation of Pampanga River Control System Office for the proper monitoring and maintenance of Pampanga River.
