CANDABA – Local folks here recently branded the
portion of the national road fronting the public cemetery in Barangay
Pasig approaching Candaba bridge as
‘killer road’.
According to locals, the said road poses clear
and present danger to motorists as the approach of the bridge traverses a sharp
curve lines making the drivers blind on coming vehicles from the other lane.
As this developed, the said ‘killer road’
claimed another victim who died in a hit and run incident early Saturday.
The fatality was identified Emilio Ignacio,
resident here.
In two separate incidents, Cecelio Talao,
resident of Barangay Paralaya and Marvin Pelayo, of Barangay Mandasig were
heavily injured when fast moving motorcycles hit them while crossing the
‘killer road’.
With this, they blamed the Department of Public
Works and Highways (DPWH) on the alleged engineering lapses as they failed to
relocate and clear the area with at least two residential houses constructed
right after the bridge’s approach.
Several vehicular accidents took place
frequently and most of the victims were ordinary citizens walking along the
road.
