“Tanods” laud officials on free PhilHealth cards initiative


CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A group of Barangay Tanods here lauded officials of the provincial government on initiative of providing free Philippine Health (PhilHealth) insurance cards as a gesture of gratitude to their sacrifices in improving peace and order situation in various communities in the province. 

According to Andy Aga, a barangay tanod here, they are happy with the recent pronouncement made by  Governor Lilia Pineda, that all barangay tanods will be given PhilHealth cards.

As this developed, another barangay tanod here stressed that with the show of deep to them, their group will more active and visible in public places to ensure the safety of the rest of the residents.

Pineda, earlier, told a crowd of barangay tanods in Arayat town, that the provincial government will be providing insurance cards to “tanods” in 600 barangays in the province.

It was learned that barangay tanods are not receiving salaries from their respective barangay. Instead, they only get small amount of allowances which on its own could not be enough to support their family needs. 

The Barangay Tanods serve as local volunteers who carry out basic security functions under the authority  of the Barangay Captain in their place.

They played a vital role in providing security and order in the community especially in public places in their barangay such as  markets, churches, schools and streets.
