Farmers, fisher folks get P5-M


CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -  The  Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its regional and municipal offices yesterday distributed checks amounting to at least P5-million to small-scale farmers and fisher folks in Candaba town who participated in the Cash-for-Work project by the national government.

At least 1,606 beneficiaries received their respective checks in simple ceremony held at Ms. Earth Park in Barangay Mandasig in the said town.

Myline Biccay, municipal social welfare and development officer, disclosed that beneficiaries rendered services by cleaning the major roads, canals and other public places in their respective communities.

Biccay said that these beneficiaries also performed a vital role in the recent dengue campaign by the municipal government.

Cash-for-Work  program beneficiaries were provided with cash to meet their requirements for food and other basic necessities. Each participant receive a pay of P286 per day for a period of 11 days.

This  is a short-term intervention to farmers and fisher folks and their families who are distressed and in need of assistance.

The program aims to generate temporary employment and provide income augmentation to small-scale farmers and fisher folks as well as those affected by disasters and emergencies, and encourage community participation in implementing community-defined projects and prepare them for emergency, hunger mitigation and food security initiatives.
