CANDABA - Some catholic faithful who religiously observed the celebration of All Saints Day and All Souls' Day stressed that the true spirit of the occassions have remained despite decreasing number of the people going to various cemeteries here.
According to them, the turn around of events brought about by recent calamities seriously hitting the province has prevented a flamboyant celebration of All Souls' Day.
"The faithful can no longer buy flowers and special candles unlike before. Many of them were displaced and prevented from reporting to work. Some of them preferred to buy foods instead of flowers and candles," Demogracia Gatbonton, 72, a resident here said.
It was observed yesterday that the attendance of people celebrating the occassion in various cemeteries in the Barangays of Pasig, Paralaya and San Agustin can be hardly compared to last year.
All Souls' Day is a holiday celebrated in country and other places around the world.
"The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died," another resident here stated.
The celebration takes place on November 1st and 2nd, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' and All Souls' Day respectively.
Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.
